Berlin Festival presents an ‘encore’

Delivered... electronic beats NEWS as RSS-Feed | Scene | Wed 29 Sep 2010 11:20 am

After the way Berlin Festival ended on the 10th and 11th of September, the organizers have come up with a novel idea for those that missed out on headliners Fatboy Slim and 2 Many DJ’s. They will be throwing an encore event at Berlin’s Arena on the 8th of December.

After concerns of overcrowding were cited at the festival of 15,000, organizers and police both decided to shut down the festival early. The organisers even set up a Facebook page to find a resolution for the issue.

Direct from the press release, organizers were keen to present their upbeat solution :

"It’s been two weeks since Berlin Festival 2010 ended. Despite ambivalent resonance by some in the immediate aftermath of the festival, positive resonance remains in the press and with the artists participating."

So the deal is, all festival goers that were originally at Berlin Festival can go to this event for free, as long as you have an original wristband, all you have to do is register here before November 1st.

Setspeed – Two Blocks Down and Droptools EXCLUSIVE

Delivered... sanjay kundalia | Scene | Tue 28 Sep 2010 8:26 pm

I think this is awesome! Randomly came across it today. Its the first full release on the new Bass Music label. Some grimy dubstep with drop of ambience.

With the debut release from Bristol producer Setspeed. This dubstep two-tracker shows a producer with an ear for detailed beats, intricate soundscapes and abstract textures – taking influences from classic dubstep, with a respectful nod to the space and precision of producers like Photek.

Two Blocks Down takes muted colours and clinical FX atop a rolling beat and clashing ride cymbals, building to a heady swirl of technoid distortion, bouncing delays and twisted strings. Droptools, by contrast, strips things back to the very bones; fragments of rhythm skitter around a crisp halfstep beat, while a strident 808 bass underpins a desolate industrial atmosphere.

Weekend Weapons: Oscar G

Delivered... Posted by Alex Hughes | Scene | Tue 28 Sep 2010 4:06 pm
As much as we love house music for its positive vibes, there's something to be said for a good ol' club polemic—think of Abe Duque's "What Happened," Cevin Fisher's "The Way We Used To," or Floppy Sounds' more recent "City for Sale," about the hollowing out of New York's underground culture. So Oscar G.'s "F**k the VIP" can't help but put a smile on our faces. It's the Great Recession, for crying out loud: who cares about velvet ropes and pricey bottle service? Oscar G.'s new Live from NYC mix is all about returning the focus to the dancefloor. Recorded live at Pacha, the set is Oscar's love letter to New York dance culture, featuring tunes from DMS12, Mario Ochoa, Stefano Noferini, and more. A companion album, Original Beats Sampler, showcases 10 new tracks from Oscar himself, including "F**k the VIP" and "Angel" featuring Stryke. Read on to check out Oscar's Weekend Weapons selection, including his aforementioned VIP diatribe plus a new Brothers' Vibe, a track sampling classic Victor Calderone, and more.

Aeroplane’s “Superstar”

Delivered... Posted by beatportsean | Scene | Tue 28 Sep 2010 3:53 pm
I’m sure this video has something to say about fashion, but exactly what, I’m not quite sure. What I am sure of is that Aeroplane’s Vito Deluca is an ‘80s loving synth slinger with a penchant for disco and pop. The new album from the Belgian solo act, formerly a duo, is called We Can’t Fly. It’s been getting mixed reviews, but the hot little number featured here, entitled "Superstar," is a sure winner. It’s hard to deny the pull of vocoded lyrics over classic piano. The question is: how do I get my hands on one of those masks? In lieu of one of those, I'll content myself with the "Superstar" remix by the Krays, aka Yuksek and Brodinski.
