FILTER Magazine’s Culture Collide Festival Digital Sampler

In case you haven't heard yet, next week, bands from all over the world will be converging in our backyard of Los Angeles, CA to participate in FILTER Magazine's Culture Collide Festival. We're quite proud of this inaugural line-up and very excited to work with all of our partners who helped make months of tireless work a reality.

Now, as a special treat to you, we've compiled twelve tracks from just a few of the international bands playing the festival onto one handy digital music sampler.  Because we know you like good music, this collection ranges in style from the danceable Casiokids (Norway) to the sweet and subdued sound of Nive Nielsen and the Deer Children (Greenland). Never heard any music from Poland?  Well, here's your chance!  For more info on the festival, make sure to check out CultureCollide.com

See you in LA!

Gulf Aid Allstars – It Ain’t My Fault! by Preservation Hall

Gulf Aid Allstars – “Ain’t My Fault” (Magnum Remix) by Magnum.

Over at the Six Degrees office we are blessed to not only work with amazing artists that are on the label, but to also have employees who are very talented up and coming artists in their own right. Will Magid, who, under the production moniker ‘Magnum’ has a hot remix for the Gulf Relief Foundation out now. Besides remixes you can hear Will playing trumpet with such diverse acts as Solomon Burke, Muytator, Afrolicious and Happy Rabbit to name a few.
You can vote for the remix on the Gulf Relief homepage, and even make your own track with Mos Def and Preservation Hall Jazz Band stems. More info after the break.

On May 12th, 2010, Mos Def and Preservation Hall’s Ben Jaffe met in New Orleans to collaborate on a song to benefit The Gulf Relief Foundation, an organization providing relief for those affected by the Gulf oil spill catastrophe.

In an all-night jam session less than 12 hours later, they recorded the song at Preservation Hall with the newly formed Gulf Aid Allstars: Mos Def, Lenny Kravitz, Trombone Shorty, Tim Robbins and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The result: a remake of the New Orleans rhythm and blues classic “It Ain’t My Fault”.

The track and accompanying music video of the session are now available for download exclusively on iTunes with all proceeds to benefit The Gulf Relief Foundation. As an extra incentive, your purchase of the single gets you a free 1-year subscription to Spin Magazine, just enter your iTunes receipt number at SPIN.COM/PreservationHall

We’re now offering you the chance to engage the issue and the music artistically by giving you access to the music and allowing you to remix it with complete artistic freedom. Whether you are a singer, producer, dj, musician or all the above, make this track yours. All music must be 100% original content. All you have to do grab the stems for “It Ain’t My Fault”. When you are finished with your remix, upload it here. You and other fans can then vote on your favorite. For those of you that don’t have any suitable software click here to try this free software online. The deadline for the contest is October 1st, 2010. The winner of the contest will win a very special package from New Orleans’ Preservation Hall and Gulf Aid.

Erol’s new signing gets the remix treatment

Delivered... electronic beats NEWS as RSS-Feed | Scene | Mon 27 Sep 2010 3:58 pm

Erol Alkan’s latest signing to his Phantasy Sound’s label – Babe, Terror are set to release a series of special EP’s through the British imprint.

Sau Paulo natives Babe, Terror make the kind of lo-fi, alternative guitar music that has become the latest focus of music journalist’s genre definitions. Some call it lo-fi, some call it chill-wave, others call it glo-fi. Perhaps people are spending too much time here.

Alas, before we digress, Babe, Terror’s new EP Summertime Of Our League will be coming out on Erol Alkan’s label and rumour has it there will be some big name remixers. For those of you who aren’t up on Sau Paulo’s newest export’s music then imagine something that sounds like Anthony of Anthony and the Johnston’s fame, satanically infectious sounds and the free-form pop of the likes of Animal Collective all mixed up in a land of perpetual sunshine. This will sounds something like Babe, Terror.

Summertime Our League drops today on orange splattered green vinyl, limited to 500 copies. Then on October 11, his second EP for the label, ‘Havai’, will be released on purple splattered white vinyl, with remixes by Memory Tapes and Duke Dumont.

Wishing Aaron-Carl a speedy recovery

Delivered... Posted by Beatport Mike | Scene | Mon 27 Sep 2010 2:48 pm
We've just learned that Detroit house music legend Aaron-Carl has recently been diagnosed with cancer. The prolific house and techno producer, whose discography stretches back 15 years and includes massive hits like "Down" and "Rain," made the announcement on his website two days ago; he has cancelled his European tour and will begin treatment in the coming days. "For years, I’ve noticed I was 'hated,'" he writes. "Now at this time in my life, I realize that I’m actually loved." Amen to that. Beatport sends our best to Aaron-Carl and his family, wishing him a full, speedy recovery and all the strength required.

Cos/Mes unveil Gozmez Land *Chaosexoitca

Delivered... electronic beats NEWS as RSS-Feed | Scene | Mon 27 Sep 2010 1:16 pm

Emerging from the Tokyo underground, Cos/Mes have delivered one of the finest and strangely named LPs this year. Called Gozmez Land *Chaosexoitca their press release intend it to be, " one of the most important pieces of electronic music to emerge in ages", not totally far off. It really is an exotic spacious journey, created by two anonymous producers called Flatic and 5ive.

Born out of the art collective Tasha Hisha, their style combines, cinematic pop with a bit of disco, ambient, cosmic jazz and Balearic thrown in. Flatic himself already runs a crate diggers label/mix CD label called Soundmore. Hence, why this album is filled to the brim with exotic leftfield references and strange beats. If this really is part of a scene, then we can expect a slew of great new artists to emerge from Japan, not since the heyday of Cornelius and Cibo Matto in the nineties.

Signed to American label ESP Institute, their sleeve art was created by ESP Institute’s resident Mario Hugo and features a special remix from Acid Orchestra.

This obscure gem will be released on November 8th on ESP Institute.
